Biodynamic. Le Blanc Bonhomme, the Domaine’s luminous, nonconformist white, has been superb in recent years. We missed out on the 2015, yet the new 2016 release is every bit as delicious. It’s an equal blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc drawn from a 3-hectare, biodynamic vineyard in Cars, close to the banks of the Gironde River.

Guillaume Hubert’s grounded, vineyard-focused approach results in a vibrant, unworked and racy white whose crunchy freshness and juicy texture reflects the limestone soils on which the wine is grown. The yields were very low in 2016, (24 hl/ha) and the grapes were handpicked, manually sorted and underwent a 24-hour carbonic period before being pressed into concrete vats and 40% old barrels.

Here it completed its fermentation, carried out by indigenous yeasts only. It all adds up to a simply delicious, mould-breaking white Bordeaux – and just to be sure no one misses the point, the family bottle it in a Burgundy-shaped vessel! The 2016 is a beauty; pretty floral, stone fruit and citrus aromatics lead to a pulpy, layered yet racy palate with ripe citrus, white nectarine and pear notes.

Description

The Hubert family settled at Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours in the village of Cars near Blaye in 1895, and six generations have followed since.

The estate is located on a hill overlooking the estuary, with the vineyards on the slopes. From its 17th-century castellated tower, we have a spectacular panoramic view of the entire estate and the Gironde estuary.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
