About Christophe Billon Wines
Christophe Billon is a gentle unassuming man of the land, he worked for years as Guigal’s head viticulturist and slowly purchased plots of land in perfect locations. Over time he has become one of the finest producers of Syrah in France (if not the world). He will never be famous like the Guigal family as he is happy to stay small and expand very slowly – perhaps his kids will gain the fame.
Christophe Billon has been tending the vines of Côte Rôtie for years. His career really began after taking over his father’s modest estate of .017 ha on Cote Rozier. Whilst working as a viticulturist for the Guigal family he has built his own domaine holdings up to 3.5 ha in Côte Rôtie and 1.5 ha of Vdp. Most Cote vines, planted on the schist soils are around 30 years of age with some going back to the original plantings of 1942.
