94 Points, 5 stars Wine Orbit – Sam Kim 2022

Dark berry, almost mulberry fruit blends seamlessly with fine oak and fruit tannins, contributing to the deep and persistent structure of this wine. There is a clear suggestion of the complexity to develop with further time in bottle.

The 2021 Dark Side of the Moon Shiraz is not the first time we have ventured beyond the boundary of the Clare Valley to secure fruit for this blend, 2021 comprising 75% of our estate grown Clare Valley fruit blended with smaller parcels from the Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek wine regions.

Our estate grown vineyards are largely grown without supplementary irrigation and the drought conditions of the past three seasons have taken a heavy toll on our yields. Looking to other regions, it was the structure and natural acidity of our partner regions along with the complementary grower relationships that we have that as best fit for our style.

The resulting cross-regional blend is elegant yet powerful with bright primary fruit character and integrated tannins.

With a backbone drawn from estate owned, dry grown vineyards located throughout the Watervale and Penwortham we combine excellent viticultural practice and clever, intuitive winemaking with careful oak selection to create a wine that will continue to evolve over the next 8-10 years.

About Claymore Wines

Just over 20 years ago, Claymore Wines was humbly established with small volumes of Grenache and Riesling from a single vineyard in Penwortham. Since then, the estate has grown to include additional varietals and 44 hectares across three additional vineyards in Watervale.

At Claymore Wines, we enjoy bringing together life’s passions – wine, music, and football to create the ultimate experience. We pride ourselves on producing premium Clare Valley wines using the best fruit from our vineyards, but when it comes to enjoying a glass we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Many of our labels are inspired by either football or some of the greatest music of modern times. So turn up the volume, crack open a bottle and enjoy with friends.

The Claymore Wines team shares the passion for the fun side of wine and enjoys guiding visitors to our Cellar Door through the Claymore Wines experience.
