Refreshingly dry with bright red berries, fleshy peaches and subtle savoury notes all supported by crisp acidity and a long persistent finish.

The Shiraz was machine harvested in the cool of the evening and transported to the winery for immediate pressing. The free run was cold settled overnight and racked for ferment with aromatic yeast. The Pinot Gris and Savagnin were both pressed individually, cold settled and racked for a cool slow ferment. All parcels were sulphured after primary ferment and blended for bottling with minimal fining.

About Cloak & Dagger Wines

Gazing across the picturesque landscapes or soaking up the warm afternoon sun with an aperitivo in hand, one can’t resist becoming immersed in the Italian way of life. Italians have their work-life balance down to a fine art as something that must be deeply cherished. I discovered this while living and working as a winemaker in Emilia- Romagna and it became the inspiration for the creation of Cloak & Dagger: wines saturated with passion and care to be lovingly shared with family and friends.

Vintage in Emilia- Romagna fell in Autumn, a bountiful time for fresh tomatoes, basil, walnuts, eggplants, cucumber, zucchini and quince. There is pure magic in the simplicity of freshly picked ingredients from the garden and the enjoyment of cooking straight from the earth. The simple and and aromatic favourite with pestle-pounded walnut pesto with local parmesan, estate grown olive oil and tossed through a pasta was often on the menu.

Afternoon ‘aperitivo hour’ was one of my favourite times of the day. It offered the chance to dress up and enjoy a glass of wine or a spritz accompanied with a slice or two of prosciutto and fresh green olives whilst exchanging daily news with family and friends.

Another favourite was dining al fresco with the sun setting on another Italian country-side day and this precious time spent with neighbours, friends and family could, on special occasions, go on for hours. The tumbler of wine that was present at most meals always enhanced the dining experience and, more often than not, it was our own wine or that of a neighbour—a time to, slow down—a time to connect.

Cloak & Dagger was born to share these pleasurable Italian life traditions, to connect us with the growers and the land; It was also born to offer wines that compliment but not overpower good food—the perfect accompaniment to a bowl of pasta or simply as an Aperitivo. But, most importantly, to offer wines that celebrate life and connect us through food and wine.

Our name, Cloak & Dagger, is meant to conjure up mystery and intrigue and we hope these wines stimulate your curiosity and intrigue and enchant you. The labels tell the story of the wine in each bottle with some botanicals hints about the flavour profile of the wine. The Cloak is a velvety and soft Sangiovese, The Dagger has the steely acidity of the Pinot Grigio but all our wines are made with passion and love to be enjoyed with those you love to be with.
