Clos Cantenac 2014 is made from 100% fully ripe young Merlot from our 17 and 27 year old vines planted in two separate blocks close to the winery and picked in absolutely perfect early morning conditions in late September.
The wine shows a deep dense black right to the rim, vibrant with a hugely appealing zesty lively nose and a fine aromatic range of rich, ripe red fruits, with hints of blackberries and cassis, enhanced by spicy notes of cinnamon and pepper. The elegance and finesse of the wine is further supported by lush fresh red berries, pencil shavings, fragrance, almonds, mocha, truffles, liquorice and subtle soft grilled new oak notes.
On the palate it displays lovely sweet and succulent crunchy bright red fruits and black cherries that spread right across the mouth with an impressive intensity of character but is deceptively soft with good weight and just the right amount of dryness to counter balance the richness of the wine.
It is still tightly coiled, but it already shows good weight and a fine structure and is well balanced by the uplifting purity and freshness of the fruit, the juicy acidity and a slight chalky texture followed by fine velvety refined tannins and an amazingly long and seductive finish.
This has produced a very interesting and fine wine that will continue to develop for some years to come and will benefit from careful cellaring.

About Saint Emilion
This enchanting Saint Emilion vineyard was purchased in January 2007 by Martin Krajewski, the owner of Chateau de Sours, along with his great friend and wine enthusiast Marcus Le Grice from New Zealand.
Our first challenge was to take control of the day to day management of the vines, to improve the vineyard architecture and then to renovate the ancient 200 year old winery in preparation for the first harvest in late September 2007.
