The 2017 Watervale Riesling has beautifully lifted aromatics of apple, grapefruit and lemon. The palate has great drive and generosity of flavour, grapefruit, lemon and citrus peel, with a soft, chalky texture and a juicy line of acid.

Pale straw-green; a scented bouquet of lemon and lime blossom sets the scene for a wine of great purity and balance, the fruits promised by the bouquet driving the long palate, sustained by minerally acidity. Lovely wine, longevity assured by quality and evidenced by gold meals for the ’09 and ’10 at the Clare Valley Wine Show ’17. 94 points.

The Story of clos Clare

The story of clos Clare is quickly growing into what will be one of the great wine stories of the Clare Valley. It began in 1986 when the Barry family purchased the Florita vineyard from the then owners, Leo Buring. This vineyard produced, for many years, the great wines of Leonay and Richmond Grove.

Warilto, the homestead on the property was sub-divided and offered as a custodianship to artist and building conservator, Ian Saunders. A small 5-acre parcel of the vineyard was included in the sub-division and clos Clare was born.
