Shiraz (98%) Viognier (2%). Made from mature shiraz vines grown on elevated granitic loam sites near Murrumbateman.

The 2018 Reserve is beautifully ripe, and combines the intensity and vibrancy of the vintage with the spice, perfume and elegant structure that these vineyards consistently give. Showing plenty of youthful charm now, this wine will be at its best at between five to thirty years of age.

The growing season leading up to the 2018 harvest was generally temperate, with with dry and warm weather over summer serving to create near-perfect conditions. Very modest yields in 2018 produced shiraz grapes with well-ripened tannin and pristine flavours.

The grapes were hand-harvested at approx. 13 Baumé. Fermentation with around 50% whole bunches took place in open fermenters which were worked by foot and rack/return. Individual parcels were matured in a mix of new and seasoned Allier and Tronçais oak. Blending and bottling took place in February 2019.

Collector Wines

Alex McKay started Collector Wines in 2005 with just a handful of cool climate shiraz and a determination to make elegant, long-lived wines.

Fast forward to today, and we are known for wines that sing with a purity of regional expression and varietal definition. Our grapes come from vineyards dotted around the Canberra District and region, but our cellar door is in the heart of country Collector, just outside Canberra.
