Cooke Brothers’ 2022 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, crafted by the skilled hands of Ben Cooke, is a testament to meticulous viticulture and precise winemaking. The vineyard’s narrow row spacing, enhancing vine density, combined with the exclusive use of the Bernard clone 76, imparts a unique character to the grapes. Harvested on the 15th of March 2018, the handpicked clusters underwent a gentle whole bunch press, finding their way directly into 500L French oak Puncheons. The barrel fermentation, driven by indigenous yeast, and frequent stirring during its nine months on lees have nurtured a wine of unparalleled complexity. Bottled on the 28th of November 2018, a mere 2136 bottles were produced, each carrying the signature of a limited and exceptional expression of Adelaide Hills Chardonnay—rich, nuanced, and a testament to the artistry of Cooke Brothers.

About Cooke Brothers Wines

Cooke Brothers Wines is the collaboration of three brothers. We produce small batch, single vineyard wines that reflect the site with sympathetic and gentle handling to produce elegant wines that will cellar.

VINEYARDS
Working with a core group of growers to produce the best fruit reflecting the site and vintage conditions is what we are about. Our growers are committed to quality. Careful pruning, restriction of yields, vine canopy manipulation and sustainable practices producing the best fruit possible.

WINEMAKING
Our winemaking is sympathetic to our fruit. Oak barrels used are 228L barrique and 500L puncheon. Some of them are new.

Whole bunch fermentation may be used in our reds, along with extended maceration. Oak maturation is used to support and enhance the wine, to lift aromatics and enhance structure and mouthfeel, but not to encroach.

Whites are whole bunch pressed and oxidatively handled. Fermented in barrel. Lees stirring is occasionally used to add complexity and mouthfeel.
