About This Wine

2020 was quite a complex vintage; cool conditions at flowering, a heat wave followed by a cold snap thus extending the ripening period.

The Chardonnay for this wine was sourced from two vineyards (Rathmine Vineyard & Morialta Park). Fruit was handpicked and wholebunch pressed to tank before being racked into barrel. Wild ferment across all barrels and partial malolactic fermentation. The wine then spends 6-8 months on gross lees before a further 3 month settling in tank and finally bottling.

About CORDUROY Wines, Adelaide Hills

Established by winemaker, Phil LeMessurier, CORDUROY Wines are from exceptional single vineyard sites in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Using traditional hands-on winemaking techniques, Phil has captured their amazing qualities and bottled them for your pleasure.

From grape to glass CORDUROY Wines are a pure expression of nature. CORDUROY Wines will leave a lasting impression on your senses.

The evolution of Corduroy Wines has always has always been Phil’s so called love child. Starting in 2009 as a small side project, Corduroy has now developed into a boutique and respected wine brand producing wines out of the beloved Adelaide Hills in South Australia.

In 1999, Phil worked his first vintage in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Inspired by the energy, intensity, and team-work that comes with working in a cellar, he knew winemaking was his life calling. Next stop: the US where he undertook a vintage at the renowned family estate Domain Drouhin in Portland, Oregon.

Back in the “Vale”, he worked a two-year stint at Wirra Wirra where he cemented his career in winemaking.

From 2002–2005, Phil took his practical expertise to the classroom, graduating with a degree in Oenology at the University of Adelaide, SA. He then accepted the much-sought after job as Assistant Winemaker at Thomas Wines in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Thomas Wines allowed Phil to further develop his practical and theoretical experience and he truly began to flourish as a winemaker.

Back overseas, he worked vintages in the Napa Valley at state-of-the-art winery, Vineyard 29 and in the magnificent Rhone Valley, France, at Paul Jaboulet. He currently works at Brokenwood, Hunter Valley.
