Deep brick red in colour the wine has subtle aromas of spice, pepper and savoury oak. The palate is medium weight with blackberry fruit dominating, firm but with a long soft savoury finish.

Cellaring: Although this wine is soft and approachable now it will improve with cellaring for many years.

Description

Vineyard: This wine is produced from grapes grown at our Pothana Vineyard. The shiraz vineyard top soils are silty clay loams with gravel mudstone and marine limestone debris sub soils. The vines are old and low yielding, producing less than 2 tonnes per acre annually.
Harvest date: 24 February 2021

Winemakers notes: The fruit was ripe clean and in excellent condition when it was hand picked in late February. The grapes were warm fermented in traditional open fermenters, which were hand plunged and then basket pressed. The resulting wine was stored in French oak barrels for 12 months. After blending, the wine was only lightly fined followed by coarse filtration prior to bottling.
