Like the Orange Chardonnay in 2022, this was made in tiny quantities of less than 50 dozen. The blend is Ribolla Gialla (75%) and Chardonnay (25%). The Denton crew planted one acre of Ribolla Gialla three years ago near the Chardonnay vines at the bottom of the cooler, north-eastern slope – this is the first crop.

The Ribolla fruit was picked late in the season when the skin colour had started to turn and flavour intensity had developed. It was kept on skins for 14 days and then held in tank for 10 months. The Chardonnay (P58 clone) was picked earlier than the Ribolla, then saw seven days on skins before fermenting and resting in old barrique. The wines were blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

About Denton Wines

Welcome to John and Simon Denton’s Vineyard. Our vineyard, ‘View Hill’, is an isolated hill in the middle of the Yarra Valley on the north side of the Yarra River and has a great aspect for grape growing and wonderful views of the whole valley.

This unique terroir was formed 370 million years ago in the late Devonian age from an active volcano that left behind a ‘granite’ plug. This granitic sandy soil over massive granite boulders is the key element of our special site.

Set on 60 hectares of land (150 acres) the vineyard covers 32 hectares (80 acres) planted in three stages between 1997 and 2004. We have been growing grapes here since 1997 and making wine since 2006.

Denton wine aims to make elegant, varietal and site specific wines that are delicious and enjoyable.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
