Between the Mâconnais and Fuissé, Olivier Giroux’s Saint-Philibert estate rises from exceptional soils.

No stranger to extended time on lees, this Organic Mâconnais Chardonnay from Mâcon-Loché wraps fresh lemon juice, blossom and just picked pears in a creamy cuddle, while those soils impart the unparalleled liveliness of fresh gravel, and a dash of salt. Delicious already.

About Domaine Clos des Rocs Wines

The vineyard, practically in one piece, is oriented to the east and located on a clay-limestone hillside at an average altitude of 270 meters .

On the reddening, stony and shallow earth of the secondary era, the estate’s vines exceed the more than respectable age of 85 years , guaranteeing the production of quality wines.

The property is cut by a fault which separates on one side the alluvial soils from which the most delicious Pouilly-Loché come such as the 4 Saisons and the Barres and on the other the plots planted on the Jurassic limestone rock; plot selections such as Mûres and Le Clos des Rocs Monopole find their fulfillment there.

In order to respect the balance of our eco-system and bring maximum biodiversity to the vines, the estate buys and preserves woods adjacent to the plots. The maintenance of hedges and green spaces surrounding the different places are a priority; conservation of natural wildlife habitats results from this.

The partnership with breeders allows you to benefit from the benefits of living with flocks of sheep: the latter regulate the growth of grass by maintaining low cover, while amending the soil.

And honestly, it’s nicer than the noise of tractors or other mowers: pruning to the sweet sounds of bleating in winter, what joy!

Principal Wines

We are wine lovers with no agenda, except to work with people who grow grapes, and to put their wines into the hands of people we respect.

We bring many years’ collective experience working in restaurants and winemaking to Principal Wine and think we have a pretty good idea of how a great glass of wine tastes.

Things change all the time in the world of wine, but our core values always remain the same - to work with people who make their wine in the vineyard, to have fine wine to sell to places we’d like to drink ourselves, and to provide excellent service.
