Dampt`s Village Chablis comes predominantly from old, 45 year-old vines that grow near the family Domaine, in the hamlet of Milly. No oak is used here, so this is a pristine expression of Chardonnay grown on these chalky hillsides. Colour is bright, pale lemon-gold, having pure, lemony aromas. This is a lively, intense, freshly citrusy mouthful, being silkily textured and finely structured. It finishes with raciness, vitality and excellent length.

Freshness and liveliness mark the elegance of this very pleasing wine with its green apple notes. The Chablis has a crisp shellfish-scented bouquet that harks back to the seaside (rock pools, specifically!). The palate is well balanced with bitter lemon on the tip of the tongue, moderate depth, but a keen line of acidity and a subtle marine influence on the finish that like one or two others, is faintly reminiscent of a fine Muscadet.

About Domaine Daniel Dampt et Fils Wines

The history of the Domaine Daniel Dampt et Fils in Chablis, northern Burgundy , dates back more than 150 years. With 10 hectares (25 acres ) of Chablis Premier Cru vineyards, 12 hectares (30 acres) of Petit Chablis vineyards and some wonderful bottles from the Chablis Grand Cru appellation, the family domaine manages its vineyards sustainably to protect the environment and safeguard the natural characteristics of the Chardonnay grape.

Domaine Daniel Dampt et Fils is in the old village of Milly, which has now become part of Chablis. It is independently run, managing its own winemaking process from start to finish. The current generation – Vincent Dampt and Sébastien Dampt – integrate the traditions and advice passed on to them by their father, Daniel Dampt, and their grandfather, Jean Defaix. They are also innovative and take exceptional care of the vines, their fruit and the wines they produce, patiently maturing them in stainless steel tanks and honouring the fine qualities of the Chablis appellation.

Three appellations are grown on Kimmeridigian soil:

– Chablis Grand Cru Bougros, from the prestigious parcels on the right bank of the river Serein,

– Chablis Premier Crus Côte de Léchet, Vaillons, Fourchaume, Les Lys and Beauroy, each with the typical features of its terroir,

– Chablis crafted using a blend of juices from old vines for complexity and structure, and younger vines for freshness and minerality.

The following vines grow on the Portlandian flats of Fyé, another hamlet in Chablis:

– Petit Chablis, whose originality derives from a different type of subsoil.

The wonderful Chablis wines that are produced by Domaine Daniel Dampt & Fils in Burgundy deserve their fine reputation. They are admired by loyal enthusiasts – both professionals and private customers – in France and throughout all five continents .
