Well-made Muscadet is proof that you don’t need to overcomplicate things in order to create something special. The Vinet family seem acutely aware of this, as since they started farming and producing wine in 1948 – save for a few modest expansions and single vineyard expressions – they’ve produced just one style of wine under Domaine de la Quilla, all made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape grown along the Sèvre Nantaise tributary of the Loire river. With plush white peaches and bouquets galore of white flowers, a splash of lemon zest and a light brioche texture, this Muscadet is full of class, easy to drink and shows particularly well an hour or so out of the fridge – which isn’t unwelcome as the weather cools down some…

About Domaine de la Quilla Wines

Domaine de la Quilla is a family winery located in Muscadet’s heartland of La Haie-Fouassière run by the Vinet brothers for the last twenty years, their father Gustave having established the estate in 1948.

Their 40ha of vines were planted from massal selection on good quality 3309 rootstocks, they average 35yo and grow on complex metamorphic soils north of the Sèvre river. Their philosophy is rooted in the quality of their soil, working alongside the rhythms of nature, they allow grass to grow between the vines.

They also have a patient approach to winemaking, their cellar is equipped with glass-lined underground vats where wines are aged on fine lees for a minimum of eight months.

Principal Wines

We are wine lovers with no agenda, except to work with people who grow grapes, and to put their wines into the hands of people we respect.

We bring many years’ collective experience working in restaurants and winemaking to Principal Wine and think we have a pretty good idea of how a great glass of wine tastes.

Things change all the time in the world of wine, but our core values always remain the same - to work with people who make their wine in the vineyard, to have fine wine to sell to places we’d like to drink ourselves, and to provide excellent service.
