From the village of Chichée, Gueguen’s Vaucoupin site has 40-year-old vines, producing small berries with slightly thicker skins. The steep, south-facing slopes sit on the plateau at around 190 metres and produce wines at the chalkier, more mineral end of the Chablis spectrum. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks, and the wine went through full malolactic conversion, followed by six months’ maturation on lees.

“The direct exposition of Gueguen’s vines has resulted in a Vaucopins with a very sunny character that still retains lots of precision. Clean as a whistle on the palate. Nice concentration and should develop well. A fine example of Vaucoupins.” 92 points, Andy Howard MW, Decanter

“Pale lemon yellow. The bouquet is more powerful, with a deeper weight of orchard fruit, than Vosgros. This fills the mouth, with a spicy note at the back, white pepper perhaps, alongside an impressive weight of fruit and a fine long finish.” 91 -93 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

About Domaine Gueguen

Organic-in-conversion Domaine Gueguen is based in the hamlet of Préhy, just 7 km southwest of Chablis. Although it’s dripping with the history of its founders, it was established in just 2013. The vineyards are largely inherited from Céline’s grandmother. Nearly all the fruit is estate-grown, with just a small amount in Chablis sourced from reputable growers.

The estate of Celine and Frederic Gueguen is made up of 25 hectares of vines in the villages of Chablis, Chichee, la Chapelle Vaupelteigne, Saint-Bris and Irancy.

Celine, from a winemaking family, worked with Frederic at her father Jean-Marc Brocards estate for over a decade before they decided in 2013 to go it alone and create their own wines.

Their cellar is in the small village of Prehy, where they work out of a 19th-century building crafting a deliberately modern style of wine, with a focus to respect and express their terroir.

One of their main goals is to preserve their soil, which is why they use neither chemical fertilisers nor herbicides. From 2015 onward all their wine have been made using exclusively organic processes, with the domaine beginning its conversion to certified organics with the 2019 vintage.

Made up of 35 separate parcels, Domaine Gueguen vineyards provide both great complexity, and incredible richness.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
