About Domaine Le Capitaine Wines
Our family estate is located a few kilometers from Tours on the AOC Vouvray in the Loire Valley classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Our 27 hectares of vines planted with Chenin are at the limit between oceanic influence and continental influence on the first slopes of Rochecorbon.
The Loire is a natural thermal regulator, the effect of which is transmitted to the vineyard thanks to the many valleys that shape the hillsides. The vineyard covers stony hillsides on a tufa substrate interspersed with confluent valleys, and covered with “parruche” (clay with flint which gives the mineral character) and “aubuis” (clay-limestone which gives the power of the sweet wines).
The particular climatic situation marks a strong vintage effect, influenced by the conditions of maturity of the Chenin grape variety which, depending on the high sugar content, gives us the choice of producing cuvées with fine bubbles or dry or semi-dry still wines. When the Indian summer particularly accompanies the harvest, we can observe a development of noble rot which then allows the production of sweet wines. On 0.5 hectares we grow Gamay, a red grape variety which allows us to produce a cuvée using the traditional method of the AOC Touraine rosé.
