Varietal: Shiraz

This cuvée is characterised by flavours of wild berries and liquorice over deep, forceful tannins – combining the freshness and structure that are so typical of Côte Rôtie.

n tank and awaiting bottling when I tasted it, the 2017 Cote Rotie la Landonne has smoothed out and added complexity in the past year. It now shows classic savory, meaty, la Landonne character and plenty of mocha goodness. It’s medium to full-bodied, lush and velvety on the mid-palate, then finishes long and tannic.
95-97 pts – Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate, Drink 2021-2040.

Dark purple. Mineral- and spice-accented blackberry, cherry compote and violet on the deeply perfumed nose. Shows superb depth as well as energy on the palate, offering sweet blackcurrant, cherry and candied violet flavors that are complemented by smoky bacon and cracked pepper nuances. Closes smoky, broad and very long, displaying repeating mineral, floral qualities and youthful tannic grip.

About Domaine Rene Cacheux

Cacheux was once a single domaine in Vosne-Romanée, but in 2005 two sisters married two brothers and the domaine was split. Today there is Domaine Jacques Cacheux and Domaine Rene Cacheux.

Domaine Rene Cacheux is tiny – just 3.26 hectares – but they have some very fine vineyards including 1 hectare of Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots and 0.18 hectares of Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaumonts. Their single site Bourgogne from Les Champs d’Argent is also worth a special mention.

Gerald Cacheux is the fourth generation and his wines are hand crafted from old vines and judicious use of new oak. They have a beautiful purity. This is a domain to watch, although if you stop and look too long you will miss out!
