About Domaine Sauveroy Wines
Our family estate has been nestled on the heights of the Layon Valley in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay in Anjou for 3 generations now. The vineyard today extends over a pretty plot of 28 hectares in conversion to organic farming. Quentin, Véronique and Pascal Cailleau, the last generations at the head of the estate, manage their vines according to organic principles, with rigor and precision. The estate empirically cultivates the Chenin, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grolleau Noir and Gris, Gamay and Chardonnay grape varieties.
The origins of the domain are remote. They date back to 1866 when the first vines were planted, displaying the mills established at the time on the hillsides of the Hyrôme (a river tributary of the Layon on the left bank and a tributary of the Loire). The adventure really began for our family in 1947. With a passion for wine, Francis and Donatienne Cailleau were the first to settle down at Domaine Sauveroy with only 3 hectares of vines.
A family adventure that continues with Pascal Cailleau, the last of 8 children, who took over the estate in 1984 when he was only 19 years old. Passionate about vines and wine, Pascal began studying viticulture and oenology at a very young age. He will do his internships in Burgundy then in California before joining his parents in Anjou. Véronique Cailleau, his wife, quickly joined the adventure in 1987. Together, they worked tirelessly, and guided production towards a high level of quality. At the beginning of the 1990s, they launched into sustainable viticulture, respectful of the environment.
