Description
Unlike the typical warmer climates of Côte du Rhône that produce lush, ripe fruit, this fourth-generation farm is nestled on 250 acres in the cool foothills of the Alps, near the village of Valréas. Here, the brisk Mistral winds sweep through the northeastern corner of the Southern Rhône. At the heart of this charming micro-estate lies a beautiful Provençal house, surrounded by olive groves, truffle oak trees, lavender fields, and dense forests.
Hervé Pouizin and his wife, Mathilde, have preserved the estate’s self-sufficient way of life, much as it was a century ago, with one major change: they transitioned entirely to organic farming. Their wines are fermented in the same large concrete tanks that have been in use since 1938. Adopting an old-school winemaking approach, the couple avoids the use of oak, creating high-toned, bright, and floral wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their region and elevation. The wines are bottled early to capture the freshness of the fruit, with minimal sulfur added. Their wines stand out for their beauty and incredible value.
