Domaine Theulot Juillot Bourgogne Aligoté 2021 (6 Bottles) Mercurey, France

The domaine’s Aligoté comes from a (relatively) newly purchased parcel of fruit vineyard located on the plateau, opposite the Mercurey cooperage. Hitherto, the wine had been blended into the domaine’s crémant offered above. In 2021, Nathalie and Jean-Claude were so impressed with the personality and energy of the wine (whose grapes escaped the frosts this year) that they decided to bottle it solo. Vinified on lees in old oak barrels, it opens all velvety and floral before a fleshy mid-palate offers tangy, quivering fruit scored by lemon and ripe stone fruits.

A lovely close featuring citrus peel and wet chalk flavour completes the picture. Put it this way: the domaine is so happy with the release that it has become a regular label in the portfolio. Enough said? It will make a fine aperitif or pair with salmon, fresh goat’s cheese or even a platter of sushi and sashimi.

About Domaine Theulot Juillot Wines

Created at the beginning of the century by Marguerite and Émile Juillot, Domaine Theulot-Juillot is a family estate than now spans 12 hectares, implanted in the commune of Mercurey.

From this terroir they craft a palette of six Premier Crus, and a range of superb Mercurey wines, in both red and white.

Although it was Emile Juillot who founded the Domaine and developed its terroirs, it was finally his wife who passed the estate on to her granddaughter, Nathalie, in 1987.

This type of transmission from woman to woman is quite rare, exceptional even, and is one of the Domaine’s particularities that is a source of immense pride. Today the estate is managed by Nathalie Theulot with the support of her husband.

Fine Wine Cellars

On the one hand, our role as a merchant of all things wine & spirits could not be simpler. We aim to source the most delicious, the most authentic, and the highest quality products possible from Australia and around the world in order to offer them to our clients. We live or die by how well we perform this task. Of course things are rarely as simple or as easy as they seem. Hunting for wines & spirits is no different. Apart from the months spent travelling, countless days and evenings spent tasting and the outrageous wine expenditure in the name of ‘research’, sourcing quality wine and spirits requires expertise and experience. Understanding the potential of a producer and their products is much more than just a slurp and a spit.
