‘Cherry, liquorice/dried mint, baking spice, dried roses, almond and charcuterie. It’s juicy, cherry, ripe strawberry and amaro herbs, supple dusty tannin and layers of sweet spice, juicy ripe orange acidity, and a stonyand dry, slightly peppery, finish of excellent length. So good.’ 95 Points Gary Walch, The Wine Front

The Wine Front has described Domenica’s as “the best Nebbiolo in Australia” and is a top rated wine in the Halliday Wine Companion.

The single acre of Nebbiolo is grown in a cool, protected southerly pocket on the corner of shale at the southern end of the property. This soil holds more water than the granite, allowing the typically large canopy to maintain its integrity throughout the summer, usually without supplementary irrigation.

Tiny yields of three or four bunches per vine develop the intensity of fruit required to make Nebbiolo with beautiful structure, and a deep complex core of ripe fruit.

Domenica holds the oldest Nebbiolo vines in Beechworth, producing a classic and age worthy wine. The single acre of Nebbiolo is grown in a cool, protected pocket on the southern corner of the property.

Tiny yields per vine develop the intensity of fruit required to make Nebbiolo with beautiful structure, and a deep complex core of fruit.

About Domenica Wines

The vineyard was first planted in 1996, an accord of family and friends.

The original planting consisted of Chardonnay, Roussanne and Pinot Noir on the steeper south facing section of the property. Ensuing years saw a joint venture between Michel Chapoutier, Rick Kinzbrunner and Peter Graham expand plantings to feature Shiraz and Nebbiolo.

Domenica was officially launched in 2012 after Peter became sole owner and manager of the vineyard.

From years of intimate experience farming this site, Peter has expanded the early plantings of Chardonnay and Nebbiolo which so successfully express the shallow granitic soil. Gamay will join the lineup in 2022 and Chenin Blanc from 2024.

Peter Graham has been making wine in Beechworth since 1999, when he began working in the vineyards and winery at Giaconda. During these early years, he studied oenology at Charles Sturt University while working as assistant winemaker at Giaconda until 2012, when he left to establish Domenica.

With more than 25 years of experience working this vineyard site, Peter brings an intimate perspective to the celebrated Beechworth Region. The wines are thoughtfully vinified on-site in small batches to capture the diversity of aspects and clonal selections in the vineyard.
