Intrinsic pinot noir is made from MV6 grown on volcanic grey loam soils over the weathered basalt which extends down from Mt Bolton some 3kms to the west of the Eastern Peake vineyard. The vineyards sit at approximately 430m altitude, and the vine material for this wine now ranges from 30 to 40 years.

After harvest the fruit is 100% de-stemmed into the 3000L concrete fermenters. Spontaneous fermentation with gentle pump-overs once daily. The vats are basket-pressed individually into barriques (approximately 30% new, of various French coopers – mostly Siruge and Dominique Laurent). The barrels were topped monthly, with a small amount SO2 only being added after the conclusion of malolactic, then again just prior to bottling.

Drinking exceptionally now, but has the potential to cellar for decades. Classic Eastern Peake vintage.

This is a statement of a wine. It’s tight and generally coiled, but the power of the fruit is clear. It tastes of smoked meat and boysenberry, fresh red roses, cherries, red and black, and an assortment of florals. It’s sweet and savoury, pretty and muscular at once. In short, this is a pinot noir to be reckoned with. 2024-2034. Campbell Mattinson, Haliday Wine Companion, 96 Points

About Us

Eastern Peake is a leader in boutique wines, selling exclusively to restaurants and niche retailers nationally. With the brand new function/tasting room at the Vineyard, we welcome you to experience Eastern Peake wines in absolute surreal surroundings.

Eastern Peake Vineyards are set on a small plateau at Coghills Creek in the Ballarat Highlands some 25 km from Ballarat. A dramatic backdrop of a rugged granite outcrop of Mt Bolton, namely ‘Eastern Peake’ is to the west of the vineyard, creating the stunning view seen from the property. The east the vineyard overlooks the Mammaloid Hills of the Creswick Plains, named by Major Mitchell during his epic trail.

The Eastern Peake Vineyard was established in 1983, the first plantings being 8 acres of Pinot Noir followed by 4 acres of Chardonnay in 1991. In 1994 the decision was made to establish a winery and cellar door facility at Coghill’s Creek. The winery was completed in time for the 1995 vintage.
