Aging: 4 months on lees with some bâtonnage.

Nose: Fragrant fruit blossom, green apple and pear

Palate: Fresh aromas of pink lady apples and ripe Buerre Bosc pears cascade from the glass. The palate shows green apple and chalky minerality finishing with a soft touch of wild honey. There’s a fleshy tension to the wine from skin contact which is beautifully balanced with crisp varietal acidity.

Good winter rains set a positive start to the growing season with ample soil moisture and no frost events. The cooler conditions delayed vine growth and flowering was later than average.

Fruit set was influenced by the cooler season and some varieties yielded below average. The cool & mild conditions continued throughout and subsequently delayed harvest giving the fruit ample time to develop delicate flavours.

About Eight at the Gate Wines

Sisters Jane Richards and Claire Davies grew up in the country, very close to their vineyards, with their parents and three other siblings and have always had a strong connection to the land. Even when they didn’t own rural land directly, they would regularly help out on the family farm. It was hard work, and the family rallied with all hands on deck to get through the tough times.

About Eight at the Gate Wines, Wrattonbully South Australia

Sisters Jane Richards and Claire Davies grew up in the country, very close to their vineyards, with their parents and three other siblings and have always had a strong connection to the land. Even when they didn’t own rural land directly, they would regularly help out on the family farm. It was hard work, and the family rallied with all hands on deck to get through the tough times.

Whilst Claire oversees management of the vineyard as Eight at the Gate’s vigneron, there are many times throughout the year when the extended clan is needed to prepare soil, tend vines, defend against frosts, harvest fruit, and attend to a multitude of vineyard tasks<
