22yr old, north facing vines on red volcanic soil. own rooted and never irrigated. MV6 & 114 clone.

This vineyard site is beautiful but when I found it the vineyard itself was not. Overgrown with blackberries and vines dying back from trunk disease, It’s been a fight to get it back into shape to say the least.

The fruit for this wine was destemmed into a tank on skins for a few weeks, gently punched down by hand every couple of days and pressed into three old puncheons for aging. Deeper and darker than last years. more rounded and fuller bodied. But bright with great acidity, all cherries and earth.

With only a few vintages under his belt Ryan is already making what are for us some of the most pristine and thrilling wines in Australia right now. Strange grapes grown in a strange region, but a visit to the vineyard shows you the beauty that he is able to so deftly capture in the bottle.

The whites are mineral precision with the kind of texture you get from a great chenin blanc or white burgundy. Poised acidity, bottomless volcanic mineral depth, these are serious and ageworthy. Red wines are pungently perfumed and yet ethereal and detailed on the palate.

We are certain these wines will become scarce and collectable in just a few vintages.
