Description

Fruit
The fruit is from our small vineyard in the Margaret River region of Western Australia which is established on Treeton loam soils and receives cooling breezes from the Southern Ocean. This single estate vineyard in Rosa Glen has 1ha of 40 year old Sauvignon Blanc vines. Originally established dry farmed, although now irrigated, these vines produce only moderate yields. The 2017-2018 weather was very typical of Margaret River’s Mediterranean climate with a cool, wet winter and a mild spring and dry summer. The mild temperatures in January and February supported the development and retention of the flavour profiles in the whites. Just under 6 tonnes of quality Sauvignon Blanc was harvested on 7th March.

Winemaking / Oak Treatment
Approximately one third of the juice was fermented in new French oak barriques, the remainder was fermented in stainless steel. The portions were combined post-fermentation and lees stirred for 6 weeks in order to develop additional texture and complexity. The wine was lightly fined and filtered before bottling.

Colour
Green tinged.

Bouquet
Passionfruit overlaying gooseberry, lime edges with herbal notes and hints of honey.

Palate
The complexity of the bright passionfruit with lifted herbal notes fills the mouth. The finish is mineral supported by delicate acidity to provide a long lasting vibrancy.

Cellaring Potential
Up to six years from vintage.

Matching Cuisine
This Sauvignon Blanc enlivens light meals of shell fish, seafood pasta and white meat.

Firetail Wines, Rosa Glen WA

Roje Estates produces premium varietal wines from estate grown grapes in Margaret River and Geographe. Our winemaking starts with our fruit. The vines receive the fastidious attention of the vineyard workers throughout the year and we work hard at balancing the vines to produce the best quality grapes with the most intense flavours.

In early 2010, we opened a small cellar door to the public at our Rosa Glen vineyard in the Margaret River. With an emphasis on wood where local Jarrah is teamed with French oak from barrels used to age our wines, the cellar door like our wines is hand crafted, stylish and pretty special.

Do visit to meet either Rob or Jessica, taste our wines, refresh with a tea or coffee and enjoy the space with us. We are at 21 Bessell Road and we are open 7 days a week from 11am to 5pm
