Cloves and cedar aromas. The palate is full and intense with soft and silky tannins, plenty of ripe berry fruits. Delicious with very long ageing potential.

A very wet spring prevented us watering the vineyard until January. The temperatures were mild and weather overcast all along summer with some warmer days towards February /March. Picking started mid March and finished early May. Ripening of the grapes was very slow but the end product quality will be very good.

About Frogmore Creek wines

42°S is the central latitude of Tasmania and reflects the cool climate position for which the grapes are grown. The finished wine is driven by the quality of the fruit with minimal intervention from the winemaking team who choose to let the fruit do the work.

Alain’s winemaking is a true expression of what Frogmore Creek is all about; balance, engaging and elegance. With a subtle reference to his formal French training paired with his knowledge of Tasmania and the cool climate growing region, Alain has developed his own distinct winemaking style and techniques. Alain will say his approach is ‘Lazy winemaking – we want the fruit to do the work’.

Far from the traditional sense of the word, Alain’s ability to get the best out of the grapes with minimal intervention is a credit to his winemaking ability. Alain and his team produce beautifully balanced wines, which are great with food and age elegantly over time. In saying that, hidden below this approach is another level of Alain. An innovator, who uses experimental techniques to produce a range of complex, unconventional and intriguing wines under the Winemakers Reserve label.

Regardless of the project, the grapes or the brand, Alain’s passion for his trade shines through in all of the wines he produces, becoming an authentic reflection of Frogmore Creek.
