Deep red colour as is the norm with the wines from the Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard. This wine possesses intense blackcurrant / redcurrant and mulberry-like aromas along with some subtle cedary notes. The palate is warm, firm and structured, but retains the elegance that we expect to see in Cabernet based wines from Clare. It will take several years in the cellar to reveal its undoubted potential. Very good cellaring proposition. Try with grilled lamb backstraps.

The grapes for this wine were both machine and hand harvested, transported to the winery, destemmed into 2 tonne open fermenters, chilled and cold soaked for approx 72 hours prior to the natural yeasts kicking in and beginning the ferment. Fermentation was completed within 12 days prior to the wine being pressed and run into new and used French 225L barrels for just on 18 months.

About Gaelic Cemetery Wines

Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard crafts small volumes of super premium Clare Valley wines that reflect the variety, vintage and uniqueness of the place. Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard is a highly awarded, James Halliday five star rated wine brand with multiple medals and trophies won at Clare Valley wine shows. The wines from Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard are packaged using fully recyclable materials including the bottles, corks, screwcaps and cartons that are used. Our wines are also vegan friendly.

Our vineyard was established in 1996 on a parcel of land immediately adjacent to the historic Gaelic Cemetery approximately five kilometres due north of the Clare township – hence the name. The Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard label design reflects the simplicity and minimal intervention approach we take with the wine. The image of the thistle is taken from an old headstone in the cemetery.

The Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard brand was sold in late 2019 and has continued to go from strength to strength. The Pike family created an excellent brand and award-winning wine with Gaelic Cemetery. Our aim is to further support this excellent foundation to ensure the business grows organically and sustainably over the long term.

Pirathon Wines

Pirathon produces a range of full bodied Shiraz (Syrah) encompassing the great flavour, texture and structure of the north-western Barossa. Pirathon is highly awarded wine brand with many medals and trophies won at wine competitions around the world.

Our wines are produced at our state of the art winery located in the picturesque Barossa Valley which is capable of processing 480 tonnes of grapes per year. With our own facilities we can control everything from the vineyard all the way through the winemaking process to produce the best possible wine. We use screw cap closures to improve the consistency of our bottled wine.

The Pirathon Vineyard is located in the Barossa Valley grape growing region and consists of 52.14 acres (21.10 ha) of vines, with the earliest block dating back to 1970.

“From seven growers in the north western districts of the Barossa Valley. A densely packed and powerful wine, each lot of grapes separately open-fermented, thence to new and used puncheons from four countries. Deeply coloured and complex, the oak is presently flexing its muscles, and the ripe tannins and the black fruits, dark chocolate and spices are keeping a respectful distance.”
