Very pale with green tints. Lifted fragrance of kaffir lime, citrus zest, banana and bath salts.

The palate shows great purity of fruit with intense flavours of lemon and lime zest, balanced by a long and mineral acid backbone, keeping the wine fresh and providing a long and focussed finish. Kick back with a bottle of this with your favourite seafood.

Our Burkes Hill Riesling is a story of both a special site and a special friendship.

The picturesque Burkes Hill vineyard sits just outside the township of Eden Valley, in the Barossa’s high country. A largely dry-grown vineyard on a gentle East facing slope, it produces Riesling of exceptional aromatic perfume and elegance, albeit in microscopic quantities.

As important as the vineyard itself is, our Burkes Hill Riesling also celebrates the mateship between Rob Gibson and Andrew Wigan. The two share over 40 years each in winemaking in the Barossa. Rob is a dyed-in-the-wool red man, whereas Andrew, a specialist white wine maker, holds a particular pedigree in fine Riesling.

Fruit grown from Burkes Hill has been entrusted to Andrew each year since 2017, with the mission to capture the ultra-aromatic citrus, orange blossom and bath salt qualities in bottle. This is a style that is also capable of long-term ageing.

About Gibson Wines

Gibson Wines was established in 1996 and draws on over 45 years of experience of its founder; viticulturist, geologist and winemaker, Rob Gibson.

Surrounding an 1850s Blacksmith’s cottage, Gibson’s home property in Light Pass – Northern Barossa – features a 7 – acre patch of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These vines are planted under the Gibson-Schulz trellis system, a unique method co-invented by Rob. The vines are alternately planted on a low and high cordon wire, the latter reaching nearly two metres in height.

Alongside these estate vineyards, relationships forged by Rob over four decades with multi-generational Barossa grape growing families, provides Gibson with enviable access to some of the region’s most precious fruit. Crossing all compass points of the region, Gibson’s grower relationships are key. Not only in providing a multitude of complexity in the end wines, but as a means of supporting a sustainable, integrated wine growing community.
