White pepper, crushed sage and a touch of citrus promise savoriness. The palate delivers with full-on white pepper spiciness, slender freshness and lovely, pithy, salty, yeasty texture. This is a little pepper bomb full of life and verve. The finish is dry and appetizing. A wine that is always inviting and animating to drink and to enjoy all day long!

The Grüner Veltliner Weinviertel DAC is regarded as all-rounder: The structure and minerality of this wine harmonizes perfectly with meat dishes. The wine´s fresh fruit- and citric aromas also make deliciously delightful complements to seafood or Asian dishes.

About Groiss Wines

For centuries, the Groiss family has grown grapes in Austria’s largest wine-growing region, Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), and more specifically in the northern subregion of Weinviertel. This area, known for its diverse terroirs and loess soils, produces excellent white wines from indigenous grape varieties, including Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Gemischter Satz (a traditional field blend).

Weingut Ingrid Groiss operates as a true small family business with Ingrid at the helm, her father helping with tractor work, and her mother assisting in the vineyards. The family oversees 20 hectares (49.4 acres) of organic vineyards, crafting a focused range of wines, including four single vineyard wines grown on 50-year-old vines.

Ingrid Groiss studied winemaking at Universität für Bodenkultur and returned home to eventually inherit vineyards from both her mother’s and father’s sides of the family. Upon taking over the family vineyards, Ingrid converted them to organics and narrowed their range to produce only wines that reflected their terroir, grape variety, and vintage.

Describing herself as passionate, emotional and determined pretty much says it all about Ingrid Groiss and are the sort of character traits I’d expect to find in a young wine maker who modernised their parent’s winery. Having lived the corporate life with Coca-Cola in her younger years, Ingrid returned to her wine making roots in Weinviertel and set about producing fantastic wines from the vineyards her gran had planted some 50 years ago.

Ingrid’s wines have a great purity to them and the complexity of her Gruner Veltliners is quite amazing. The wines are all certified organic now and they do get better with every vintage. It’s a real pleasure to work with Ingrid and her wines, we love them!
