Happs Three Hills Malbec (6 Bottles) Margaret River

Malbec is a very interesting variety with a distinctive flavour profile that is a useful addition to ones armoury. The Bordelaise call it ‘Cot’. We are impressed with Malbec, so much so that we have expanded the plantings in that part of the Three Hills property we called ‘Ophir’. Ophir was the place King Solomon obtained exotic imports namely, silver, gold, apes, ivory, and peacocks. We have similar expectations, however instead of arriving in trireme, the exotics arrive in 750 ml bottles.

Displays mulberry, blueberry, violets, dark cherry and stewed red fruit, with notes of choc mint, coffee and rum & raisin.

A big, rich wine with sweet fruit and incredible density – it’s almost juicy on the palate. The flavours are primarily of dark fruits such as blackberry, black currant and mulberry with notes of cola, plum skin, black jubes, dark chocolate and cedary oak. It is a tight elegant wine with soft, velvety tannins.

VARIETY: 97.0% Malbec & 3.0% Cabernet Sauvignon.

About Happs Wines

Founded in 1978, Happs and Commonage Pottery has a long and inspiring story as one of the pioneering, family-run wineries and pottteries in the Margaret River region.

Our story begins with two local high school teachers, Erl and Ros Happ who fell in love in 1969.

This young, passionate, adventurous couple had boundless enthusiasm and drive to create. This love of creation manifested itself in many ways, particularly in creating pottery and wine.

Clay and wine have been intrinsically linked to Happs with the winery and cellar door being built using clay dug from the ground on the Commonage road property. Each mudbrick was built by hand. The slides below show a smattering of the events that have shaped Happs and who we are today.

Partners in Wine WA

Kirk and Rebecca welcome you as a Partner in Wine! We are a couple of West Australians who met over a bottle of wine, and whose love developed like a full-bodied red. Before long we found our weekends planned around West Australia’s diverse wine regions in an attempt to uncover smaller, niche wineries and the hidden gems amongst their delectable wine creations.

Like you, we appreciate good times and great wine – enjoyed with friends and loved ones – and our journey has taken us through each of the beautiful wine regions of this great state, sampling thousands of wines along the way.

Many WA wines are highly rated by the likes of James Halliday – Australian wine critic, winemaker, and senior wine competition judge – and many prestigious national awards are bestowed on our state’s wine produce each year. WA’s wine is world renowned and highly sought after, but at the same time a large number of boutique wines are hard to come by in major stores, with the winemakers choosing to sell only through their cellar door.

We choose small, WA-only boutique wineries so that you can sample a special drop from our own backyard. Every wine we have tasted and personally endorse, so join us for a taste of WA. Let your winery trail begin – from the comfort of your own home!
