Hewitson Old Garden Mourvèdre 2021 is a remarkable wine from the world’s oldest Mourvèdre vines, planted in 1853. Deep magenta in color, it opens with a complex nose of chocolate, coffee bean, violets, warm earth, and subtle cigar notes. The palate is intense and layered, featuring dense mulberry and blackberry fruit, lifted by bright acidity and supported by fine, seamlessly integrated tannins. Hints of dried herbs, spice, and a savoury, earthy undertone add depth. The finish is long and harmonious, promising excellent aging potential. This is a powerful yet refined Mourvèdre of exceptional character and pedigree.

About Hewitson Wines

1853 was a great year, bringing us Vincent Van Gogh, potato chips, aspirin, Levi Strauss, Balfours, and the release of South Australia’s own currency– the Adelaide Pound.

Hewitson continues to release treasures from 1853 even today. An annual highlight is selecting the best barrels from both the Old Garden and Monopole Vineyards, wines made with exclusively 1853 provenance, to create the BARREL 1853 Shiraz Mourvèdre blend.
