The name Truffle Row comes from the row of hazelnut trees planted alongside this vineyard, whose roots are infused with the spores of the famous and rare black truffle.

We haven’t found any truffles yet, but it doesn’t stop us enjoying this wine. The wine is a blend of harmonious red varieties that are typically grown and vinified together in other similar climatic regions throughout the Old and New Worlds.

“A blend of 45% carignan, 34% syrah and 21% cinsault with 60% whole bunches in the mix, matured in old French barriques for 12 months. Bright and perfumed and packed with ripe fruit and gingery spice. Blueberry, satsuma plum and boysenberry with hints of jasmine, salted licorice, gingerbread, sarsaparilla, earth and mountain and amaro herbs. Exuberant and slinky, it comes across as quite fragrant in the mouth as well, with something akin to Turkish delight whipping around on the fringes of the palate. Fine and powdery in tannin with bright, sapid acidity, and it sports a supple tide of plush fruit and spice on the finish. 93 Points” – Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

About Hewitson Wines

1853 was a great year, bringing us Vincent Van Gogh, potato chips, aspirin, Levi Strauss, Balfours, and the release of South Australia’s own currency– the Adelaide Pound.

Hewitson continues to release treasures from 1853 even today. An annual highlight is selecting the best barrels from both the Old Garden and Monopole Vineyards, wines made with exclusively 1853 provenance, to create the BARREL 1853 Shiraz Mourvèdre blend.
