The Moulin-à-Vent “les Trois Roches” from Jean-Etienne Chermette is an excellent young wine. It comes in this year at 13.5 percent and delivers a superb aromatic constellation of cherries, pomegranate, a touch of juniper berry, pigeon, coffee, woodsmoke, fresh herbs and a refined base of dark soil tones.

On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a bit of ripe tannin and a long, beautifully balanced finish.

This has a bit of baked fruit element such as one might find in a young 1982 Bordeaux. It will need a bit of bottle age before it starts to drink with true generosity.

About Jean Etienne Chermette Wines

My wines come from my family’s estate in Vissoux, in the Pierres Dorées region in the south of Beaujolais.
Since the 17th century, my family has been rooted in Vissoux; my paternal grandmother was named Eugénie Vissoux. My parents, Martine and Pierre-Marie Chermette have expanded the estate to five appellations from the north to the south of the Beaujolais. The love of vines and wine is therefore a family passion.

With Chermette Estates, I have the chance to benefit from traditional know-how as well as from modern infrastructure for my own wine production. Respect for the soil and the terroir is a value that I have inherited and wish to perpetuate.

I finally decided to follow my family’s vocation, because I was ostentatious. The winegrower’s blood, which has been flowing in my veins since childhood, was the strongest. I decided to study ecology and international business. I obtained my National Diploma of Oenology at the Université de Pharmacie in Montpellier and a Master’s degree in international trade and marketing of wines at the ESC Dijon.

I have been enriched by several wine making experiences in France (Beaujolais, Burgundy, Cotes du Rhone Meridionales and Septentrionales) and abroad (Australia, New Zealand, California). After a trade mission in Taiwan, I joined the estate in 2017.

In 2018, my desire for diversity led me to create a new range of Jean-Etienne Chermette wines by introducing different terroirs and wines.
