Working closely with his father under the eponymous label, Pierre-Marie Chermette, join us as Jean Etienne branches out to produce his own terroir driven wines out of Southern-Beaujolais.

Jean’s family history dates back to the 17th century, he benefits from traditional know-how while leveraging modern winemaking techniques to make wines that outshine many of the supposedly nobler crus.

These vines take their roots on clay-limestone soil, very well suited to Pinot Noir, at Légny in the Pierres Dorées. The grapes are mostly vinified in whole bunches. This gives a fruity, crunchy wine with richness and structure.

Brilliant ruby red color. Offering up notes of raspberries, cherries and dried flowers. On the palate it is medium-bodied, ample and succulent, with a fleshy core of fruit, melt in your mouth tannins and an open-knit, charming profile.

About Jean Etienne Chermette Wines

My wines come from my family’s estate in Vissoux, in the Pierres Dorées region in the south of Beaujolais.

Since the 17th century, my family has been rooted in Vissoux; my paternal grandmother was named Eugénie Vissoux. My parents, Martine and Pierre-Marie Chermette have expanded the estate to five appellations from the north to the south of the Beaujolais.

The love of vines and wine is therefore a family passion.

With Chermette Estates, I have the chance to benefit from traditional know-how as well as from modern infrastructure for my own wine production. Respect for the soil and the terroir is a value that I have inherited and wish to perpetuate.

I finally decided to follow my family’s vocation, because I was ostentatious. The winegrower’s blood, which has been flowing in my veins since childhood, was the strongest. I decided to study ecology and international business. I obtained my National Diploma of Oenology at the Université de Pharmacie in Montpellier and a Master’s degree in international trade and marketing of wines at the ESC Dijon.

I have been enriched by several wine making experiences in France (Beaujolais, Burgundy, Cotes du Rhone Meridionales and Septentrionales) and abroad (Australia, New Zealand, California). After a trade mission in Taiwan, I joined the estate in 2017.

In 2018, my desire for diversity led me to create a new range of Jean-Etienne Chermette wines by introducing different terroirs and wines.
