Pale straw with a silvery green hue. The bouquet has a distinct fresh lemon peel tang overlying white peach, cut apple, pear & guava.

The palate is restrained, svelte & demure – the fruit notes reprised in the mouth, oak taking a back seat, with an appetizing saline, minerality & grapefruit-like acidity adding definition. Layered flavours build in the mouth, remaining long after enjoying a sip.

95 Points, James Halliday’s Wine Companion

‘75% Clone 95, the balance Gingin. Wild ferment in French oak (45% new). No mlf, matured for 9 months. The nose here is far more citrusy than it is peachy, with layers of brine, graphite, green apple and licks of guava. On the palate it follows in this racy manner. It is restrained, long and very tart (in a scintillating and refreshing kind of way). The warmer year, a high-acid clone and the lack of mlf come together to achieve balance, interest, austerity and class.’ Drink by 2031 Erin Larkin, Halliday’s Wine Companion 2022. Rating: 95 / 100

94 Points, Nick Stock

‘An impressive chardonnay with peach, apricot, lemon and nectarine, lemon curd, green mango and wet stones. Lots to like here. The palate has a very vibrant and intense punch, with classic Margaret River, mouthwatering power and drive. So smoothly fleshy and elegant. Big fruit energy here! Drink or hold. Screw cap.’ Nick Stock, James Suckling.com Rating: 94 / 100

About Juniper Estate

Juniper is a producer of premium wines in Margaret River, the heart of the remote, environmentally pristine winegrowing area lying in the south-west corner of Western Australia, 270km south of Perth. We are fortunate that Margaret River is where it is and, with its maritime influence, ancient soils and beautiful landscape is perfectly suited to the production of great wines.

The Juniper ‘Estate’ vineyard (formerly Wright’s) was planted in 1973 and, together with Vasse Felix, Cape Mentelle, Cullen, Moss Wood and Woodlands, is one of the founding vineyards of the region.

Juniper was established in 1998 by the late Roger Hill and his wife, Gillian Anderson, with the intention of producing wines which rank among the best to come from Margaret River and beyond.

Since 2017 Gillian and Roger’s sons, Nick and Tom, have run the business with the same ambition to make great wines from our own vineyards.

Juniper’s outlook combines the tenets of heritage, authenticity and original thinking with a view to producing wines of elegance and sophistication that showcase the best of the Margaret River region. We grow what we make and make what we grow, all from our distinctive vineyards in Wilyabrup and Karridale.

The sites are exciting in their differences, but their farming is united by sustainable and organic practices resulting in the best fruit possible that reflects each vineyard’s idiosyncrasies. Applications of compost from spent marc, sheep manure and the use of inter-row crops to fix nitrogen are all small examples of how we help sustain the natural balance of our land.

The wines we make reflect a combination of their place, vintage and variety, and are expressions of our passion, to be shared and enjoyed in good company.

A deep respect for the history of the region, and the pursuit to push boundaries, drives our outlook in creating wines that reflect their time and place. This begins with careful and thorough manual intervention in the vineyard and attentive yet minimal intervention in the winery.

Important to our philosophy is retention of the individuality of each parcel of fruit, with a block-by-block approach to their winemaking. This enables us control in blending, using complementary parcels to preserve the uniqueness and personality of our distinctive Margaret River sites. Oak maturation is used to enhance complexity and contribute to the refinement of the wines.
