The Parish of Glen Hope in the Macedon Ranges was where the Latta family FIRST SETTLED IN AUSTRALIA AFTER EMIGRATING FROM Taughboyne, IRELAND IN 1865. they farmed there for over 130 years, initially cattle then progressing to sheep (specialising in fine wool merinos).

It has been a fascinating experience to produce wine from the area of Glen Hope once farmed by our forebears (Glenhope vineyard lies 6km from the original Latta farm).

The vineyard was established by Virgin Hills in 1995/1996, sitting at 460m altitude on decomposed granite soils, a really interesting site now with a very bright future under the guidance of viticulturist Scott Harrington. The new owners the Gevergizan’s are planning on adding more Chardonnay & Pinot Noir which is very exciting for the Macedon Ranges (Also the Glenhope Vineyard is the largest acreage of vines in the Macedon Ranges). Good things happening here.

Very simple winemaking, 100% destemmed berries tipped straight into 4000L open concrete fermenters (wax lined), pump overs twice a day, pressed after 8 days, 6 months élevage in various sized casks. racked & bottled with minimum sulphur.

Malbec naturally has no shortage of colour & flavour, I really wanted to produce a fresh vibrant wine that could still stand up with its peers, as a first crack at this variety I think its come to the party.

About LATTA Vino

Eastern Peake is a leader in boutique wines, selling exclusively to restaurants and niche retailers nationally. With the brand new function/tasting room at the Vineyard, we welcome you to experience Eastern Peake wines in absolute surreal surroundings.

Eastern Peake Vineyards are set on a small plateau at Coghills Creek in the Ballarat Highlands some 25 km from Ballarat. A dramatic backdrop of a rugged granite outcrop of Mt Bolton, namely ‘Eastern Peake’ is to the west of the vineyard, creating the stunning view seen from the property. The east the vineyard overlooks the Mammaloid Hills of the Creswick Plains, named by Major Mitchell during his epic trail.

The Eastern Peake Vineyard was established in 1983, the first plantings being 8 acres of Pinot Noir followed by 4 acres of Chardonnay in 1991. In 1994 the decision was made to establish a winery and cellar door facility at Coghill’s Creek. The winery was completed in time for the 1995 vintage.

High Hopes Wine

High Hopes Wine Company is a wholesaler, importer and distributor of good drinks.

In 2011 a couple of guys, Ned Brooks and Joel Amos, each with a viticulturalist as a parent, bonded over a shared background in wine and a good feeling about where a niche of the wine industry was headed: the questioning of the status quo mass-produced big wines (or Big Wine) in favour of a more natural style of winemaking and grape-growing. Brooks & Amos was born, a small agency business. Many of the Australian producers we met and whose wine we loved were just starting out too.

Fast forward to today and Brooks & Amos has evolved into High Hopes Wine Company – now with Ned Brooks solely at the helm. The producers we work with remain some of the truest characters in the business. They’ve entrusted us with sharing their stories and ~ literally ~ the fruits of their labour and we’re proud to connect them with some of Australia’s best restaurants, bars and retailers.

Our product list is not encyclopaedic, ticking off one of each varietal or region. Nor is it dogmatically ‘natural’. Just a healthy respect for the grapes, the earth they’re grown from, and the craft of the vigneron. It’s what interests us, the things we want to drink.
