$545.00

AUSTRALIA WIDE SHIPPING INCLUDED

Fruit sourced from the certified organic Shays Flat vineyard in the Pyrenees managed by the now renowned viticulturist, Cory Hope. This vineyard has become ubiquitous on wine lists and retail shelves across Australia and not just because of the wines made by Owen. The significance of this site and the quality of the fruit it produces has been recognised by a huge number of winemakers, both young and established.

Perhaps more so than the other wines here, the Quality Release shows the terroir of this site most distinctly. This is Owens’ objective, “the whole idea here is just to make a delicious red wine that speaks of grenache that is very Shays Flat”.

Over the last 5-10 years or so Grenache has really been jumping into my repertoire of influential drinking, Im definitely not alone here, producers such as Eric Pfifferling, Gramenon, Predres Blanques, Bruno Duchêne just to name a few have all been very inspiring, they have such a fine focus on growing excellent grapes with the best farming practice to produce exciting vinous cuveés.

So when the call came in from Cory Hope who manages the Shays Flat & Landborough vineyards under organic certification that the Grenache was going to be available to us, I couldn’t of jumped quicker at the chance! The whole idea here is just to make a delicious red wine that speaks of Grenache that is very Shays Flat, 20% whole bunch, open concrete fermenters, one pump over per day very gentle, indigenous yeasts, basket pressed after 12 days, élevage for 12 months in 228L & 500L Casks, estate bottled after 3 months in tank with a small amount of sulphur.

Pretty stoked with the results of this wine & really exciting to see it evolve over the course of time.

About LATTA Vino

Eastern Peake is a leader in boutique wines, selling exclusively to restaurants and niche retailers nationally. With the brand new function/tasting room at the Vineyard, we welcome you to experience Eastern Peake wines in absolute surreal surroundings.

Eastern Peake Vineyards are set on a small plateau at Coghills Creek in the Ballarat Highlands some 25 km from Ballarat. A dramatic backdrop of a rugged granite outcrop of Mt Bolton, namely ‘Eastern Peake’ is to the west of the vineyard, creating the stunning view seen from the property. The east the vineyard overlooks the Mammaloid Hills of the Creswick Plains, named by Major Mitchell during his epic trail.

The Eastern Peake Vineyard was established in 1983, the first plantings being 8 acres of Pinot Noir followed by 4 acres of Chardonnay in 1991. In 1994 the decision was made to establish a winery and cellar door facility at Coghill’s Creek. The winery was completed in time for the 1995 vintage.

High Hopes Wine

High Hopes Wine Company is a wholesaler, importer and distributor of good drinks.

In 2011 a couple of guys, Ned Brooks and Joel Amos, each with a viticulturalist as a parent, bonded over a shared background in wine and a good feeling about where a niche of the wine industry was headed: the questioning of the status quo mass-produced big wines (or Big Wine) in favour of a more natural style of winemaking and grape-growing. Brooks & Amos was born, a small agency business. Many of the Australian producers we met and whose wine we loved were just starting out too.

Fast forward to today and Brooks & Amos has evolved into High Hopes Wine Company – now with Ned Brooks solely at the helm. The producers we work with remain some of the truest characters in the business. They’ve entrusted us with sharing their stories and ~ literally ~ the fruits of their labour and we’re proud to connect them with some of Australia’s best restaurants, bars and retailers.

Our product list is not encyclopaedic, ticking off one of each varietal or region. Nor is it dogmatically ‘natural’. Just a healthy respect for the grapes, the earth they’re grown from, and the craft of the vigneron. It’s what interests us, the things we want to drink.
