Vintage Notes – Longview experienced late Autumn and early Winter rainfalls in the lead up to 2020. Our dams filled rapidly in early Winter and soil moisture was ideal. With one of the hottest Decembers on record, maintaining healthy canopies with adequate soil moisture was challenging, but Longview handled the conditions well.

Significant fire events devastated large swathes of vineyard in parts of the Northern Adelaide Hills. Longview was spared this natural disaster and 50mm of rain at the end of January and early February brought welcome relief. From then on, temperatures cooled right down, making ripening and harvesting conditions nearly perfect.

Vineyard & Winemaking Notes – We only pick 5 tonnes of Shiraz for The Piece. Fruit from our best Shiraz blocks (Block 15 and Block 3) is picked and kept separate in 2.5-ton open fermenters with approximately 15% whole bunches. It is then gently pressed and again, categorised by block when placed in old French oak 500 litre Puncheons for around 18 months.

Upon blending the 2020 vintage, we chose only seven barrels based on structure, flavour and finesse. Always a limited bottling Longview produced a mere 4,700 bottles (390 dozen) of this wine.
