Lowe Wines, located on Wiradjuri land in Mudgee, NSW, is dedicated to sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming practices. Founded by David Lowe, the winery emphasizes creating wines that reflect the natural environment.
Certified organic for over 15 years, Lowe Wines avoids synthetic herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides, using natural alternatives like copper and sulfur only when necessary. Soil health is prioritized, with organic compost produced on-site to nourish the vines. In the winery, no chemicals are used, ensuring the organic integrity of every bottle.
Since 2011, Lowe Wines has also incorporated biodynamic principles, a holistic approach to farming based on the teachings of Dr. Rudolf Steiner. This method uses specific preparations to boost soil vitality and follows the lunar calendar to guide vineyard activities. The philosophy creates a self-sustaining system, reducing the need for artificial inputs while fostering healthier plants and more expressive wines.
Mudgee’s climate is particularly suited to red varieties like Shiraz, Merlot, and Zinfandel. Lowe Wines focuses on unirrigated, un-trellised vineyards, allowing each vintage to reflect the unique characteristics of the land and climate. This connection to the land, or “terroir,” is central to their wine-making philosophy.
