Perfume, raspberry, something like wet leaves, some pepper. Medium-bodied, fine-boned, raspberry and sour-cherry strewn with herbs, fine pumice stone tannin, fresh cranberry acidity, and a lively finish.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a bright dark red hue. Nosing offers up an intriguing mix of dark to black cherries, liquorice, earthy dark chocolate, leather and fresh herb scents. Light, very elegant in its feel and possessing a vivid freshness, the palate sports dried to dark cherry flavours over earth and infusions of fresh herbs. Dry, slightly dusty finish with bright acidity and chalky tannins. Light savoury aftertaste.

Grapes were harvested between September 18th and October 5th. 40% of the grapes were fermented in Lagar with whole cluster, foot tread with a total maceration of eight to 10 days, the remaining 70% fermented with whole cluster in stainless steel tanks with a total maceration of 20 to 30 days. Both wines aged for 14 months in used French oak barrels.

About Luís Seabra Vinhos, Douro Valley in Portgual

Luís Seabra Vinhos began producing wines under his own label in 2013 and today gaining fame from increased exposure throughout Australia. The Luís Seabra wines are often blends of several grape varieties, many of which most Australians would not have heard.

Some of these varieties fell into obscurity because they were low yielding, disease-prone or otherwise troublesome. They are being rediscovered by Luís. Some of the wines were partly fermented in lagares, the open stone fermenters traditionally used for port, where they are also foot-trodden to crush the berries and mix the fermenting juice.

Explore the Douro Valley with Luís
Watch Luís exploring the remote corners of the Douro Valley and discovering the old vines from which he makes his wines from. They are marked by exceptional length and concentration of flavour. Using French and large Eastern European oak barrels only for maturation and in some cases for fermentation, preserving the character of the grape and expressing the vineyard is the priority.
