Vintage Notes
The drought continued in 2018 with very light flowering and low fruit set, resulting in highly reduced yields. Minimal rain during vintage allowed superb fruit to be harvested. The 2018 vintage wines were a pleasure to make and in time will be revered and held up there with the best Hunter red vintages.

Vineyard Notes
The best three barrels were carefully selected from our 2018 Shiraz sources. The ‘Homestead’ and ‘Roche Estate’ were the two vineyards selected.

Winemaking
All of our old-vine Shiraz is ultimately open fermented with daily plunging and pumping over carried out. After 18 months of maturation in new and one year old French oak, BLACK was bottled unfined with moderate filtration. Production: 87 dozen (1044 bottles).

Tasting Notes
Deep crimson with purple hues in the glass. The nose oozes concentrated black and blue fruits. The palate is full bodied with a supple and velvety mouthfeel. The length of flavour and balance is exemplary.

Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential
This wine has all the characteristics that are required for very long term cellaring.

Food Matches Red meat dishes and aged cheeses.

About Meerea Park

Meerea Park is family owned, with the label launched in 1991. We handcraft our wines using fruit grown on some of the Hunter Valley’s best vineyard sites that have a track record for producing the best possible grapes in both good and not so good vintages.

We are Hunter Valley “terroirists”; specializing in individual vineyard Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz, sourced from unique vineyard sites, each being quite different, the wines expressing clearly where they are from. We also make classic Hunter Valley wines from the French varieties, Marsanne, Roussanne, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker, Rhys Eather is a Roseworthy (Adelaide University) graduate in Wine Science and has gained international winemaking experience in France and Italy. Spending the 1998 vintage at M. Chapoutier in the Rhone Valley gave Rhys the experience and insight required to craft top quality Rhone styled wines, which he openly admits as to having a great passion for. Rhys has also completed two vintages in Italy (Puglia and Piedmonte) rounding out his international winemaking experience.

Meerea Park, while taking a modern approach to winemaking, can trace our winemaking roots in the Hunter Valley back to the 1850’s when Alexander Munro, our great-great-grandfather established the ‘Bebeah’ vineyard at Singleton and was at one stage the largest and most successful winemaker in New South Wales. During his winemaking career he amassed over 2000 awards at wine shows around the world.

Meerea Park has established a reputation over the last decade as one of the leading wine producers in the Hunter Valley winning at least one Gold medal at every Hunter Valley wine show from 2002 – 2014, a feat only enjoyed by a handful of the Hunter Valley’s best producers.

We are also a TOP 100 Australian Winery rated by James Halliday and hold the prestigious 5 Red Star and Red Name Rating in the James Halliday Wine Companion.

Wine show success has been enjoyed at a national and international level and we have received a multitude of accolades emphasizing high quality and exceptional value for money for our range of wines.
