Mitchelton Wines, founded in 1969 by Ross Shelmerdine, is a renowned Australian winery with a rich history dating back to 1836 when explorer Major Thomas Mitchell crossed the area. Shelmerdine, with Colin Preece, identified the ideal site for premium grape cultivation along the Goulburn River. The winery features iconic architecture, including a 55-meter tower designed by architects Robin Boyd and Ted Ashton, and recently expanded with a boutique hotel and day spa.
Specializing in Shiraz, Riesling, and Rhône blends, Mitchelton wines embody the estate’s unique terroir. Sustainability is central to its philosophy, with innovative water management, minimal pesticide use, and eco-friendly packaging. The estate’s vineyards, spanning the Mitchelton Estate and Heathcote, thrive on diverse soils, producing wines of complexity and character.
