Mountadam Vineyards High Eden range is the selection of the best parcels of fruit from the Estate. The ‘Patriarch’ has always been Mountadams flagship Shiraz, recognising the Patriarch and founder of Mountadam, David Wynn.

Harvested on 19th of April from blocks 33 and 14 from the Estates eastern vineyard at 14.3 ºBe. These Shiraz high trellis vines were planted in 1994 and 1996 with both easterly aspect sites yielding incredibly low, producing concentrated flavours but also beautiful minerality and finesse. The cool night temperatures of High Eden allow the grapes to retain natural acidity and fine structure.

The fruit was small batch fermented and matured in 100% new fine grain French oak barriques.

About Mountadam Vineyards

Mountadam Vineyards is an iconic Australian family owned and operated winery located in the High Eden sub-region of Eden Valley, Barossa, South Australia.

David and Jenni Brown purchased the Mountadam property including winery and 80 hectares of vineyards in 2005. In 2007, David and Jenni purchased Mountadam farm and in 2015 purchased the Treasury Wine Estates High Eden vineyard including 67 hectares of vineyard, thus re-assembling the original Mountadam property of over 1,000 hectares. They share David Wynn’s vision for the sustainability of the winery and vineyards.

Throughout David and Jenni’s ownership there has been significant capital expenditure on the redevelopment of the winery and vineyards including open fermenters, filtration, solar power and water treatment.

Defined by its cool climate, ancient soils and later ripening, Eden Valley wines are distinctive in their character, displaying wonderful aromatics, elegance, complexity and finesse.

Whilst being part of the Barossa zone, Eden Valley vineyards sit at higher altitutudes (380-600 metres above sea level) than most Barossa vineyards. The Eden Valley climate varies but generally harvest occurs two weeks later than the rest of the Barossa zone. Soils are varied due to altitude and topography; sandy loam, clay loam, ironstone gravels and quartz gravels are present in areas.
