Chardonnay offers the winemaker many choices. This is evident in our own portfolio of the classic, although contemporary, Moutere wines next to our exploration of amphora ageing. One thing is for sure – Chardonnay is a wonderful drink and Tiritiri embodies this.

Classic but not old fashioned. This morish chardonnay walks a tightrope of fruit, minerality, oak and acidity.

There’s a beautiful purity to this wine, it offers a certain stillness.

Summer fruits are woven together with rockpool minerality. This Tiritiri Chardonnay truly impresses with its delicate integration of oak. The use of barriques frame the wine gently, without demanding attention.

There is beautiful shape to this wine, its voluminous without being overblown. What may be taken to be a rather broad palate on entry, tapers to a refreshing and modern finish.

Chardonnay in this form is destined for seafood. We say it a lot , but the truth is, wines like these speak of where they come from and with the abundance of Tasman Bay on our doorstep it is hard to imagine a gently chilled glass of Tiritiri Chardonnay without the “catch of the day” no matter where you are in the world.

About Neudorf Vineyard Wines

Like many small vineyards we run on a great deal of hard work, good luck, and a lot of fun. We nod in the direction of business reality to keep the whole enterprise afloat, but we believe great wines come from the heart as well as the head.

“Neudorf are one of my favourite New Zealand producers, and though the wines are generally tasted blind, it is hard to separate the wonderful Finn family, and their vision writ large in their wines, from the consumption and assessment of their wines. Late 70s pioneers of Nelson, they continue to excel.”

Team Neudorf includes Alison Hill, who looks after exports, samples & general paper shuffling, supported by Karina Gilchrist. Mike Moody & Lynne Peter keep the place looking beautiful and the coffee strong. Baz, the vineyard cat can be found up trees, under desks and sleeping in the middle of the cellar door…. He’s the resident charmer.

Neudorf Vineyards is also a member “The Family of Twelve,” a group of like-minded winemakers who have banded together to create a unique export marketing group. The twelve wineries are Kumeu River, Villa Maria, The Millton Vineyards, Craggy Range, Ata Rangi, Palliser Estate, Neudorf Vineyards, Fromm Vineyards, Nautilus Estate, Lawson’s Dry Hills, Pegasus Bay, and Felton Road.

We have known each other for years and share a concern about the trend away from wines of individuality and character towards the ubiquitous and amorphous “wine brands,” where individuality is too often a construct of the marketing department. Already this venture has proved successful and a whole lot of fun as well.
