About Old Plains Wines

Established back in 2002, I’ve been working on and off with the boys from Old Plains for a long time now, they’ve come and gone from various ‘folios but the sheer quality of their booze keeps bringing them back. Sourced from ancient vines ensconced in outer suburban Adelaide, in a sea of housing – like those gnarly old vines you see sprinkled along Albany Hwy in Kelmscott and Cannington. Grenache and Shiraz are the stars of the show, perhaps only outshone by their incredible value, the QPR on these wines is simply astounding. Unashamedly old-school cool.

The Old Plains and Longhop range of wines are produced by Domenic Torzi and Tim Freeland. The former Gawler high school mates seized upon an idea in 2002 of salvaging some of the last remaining old vine vineyards in the Adelaide Plains and making icon wines from that region. Vineyards were secured, old vines a priority. Our small band of growers have since embraced the ideal of delivering premium grapes in order to showcase the power and rich fruit flavours the Adelaide Plains and adjoining Mt Lofty Ranges has to offer.
