The Wine
It’s always been a goal to showcase Petite Sirah in a dynamic blend, so we searched for the right vineyards throughout Northern California to give us a matrix that creates layers and depth. Machete blends Petite Sirah with Syrah and Grenache, and the result is a wine that has the attitude to go with 12 individual labels.

The Land
Sourced from all over the state, Machete is a culmination of bird-dogging some of the best Petite Sirah, Grenache and Syrah vineyards in California that produce rich and flavorful fruit. Blind tasted to determine quality, the lots that make the Machete cut – pun intended – are qualified to be one with the family of labels. We used individual wine lots from Stagecoach in Napa, Knight’s Valley in Sonoma, and in the Mendocino North Coast region to create a seamless blend with both finesse and power, ultimately, creating a wine that embodies the spirit and energy of Orin Swift.

Winemaker Notes
Pure inky garnet in the glass, the aromatics of plum compote, wild blackberries, crushed gravel, peanut brittle and Tahitian vanilla emanate. Massive on the entry, the mid-palate is diverse with flavors of dark plums, black pepper, Amarena cherries, slow-roasted Moroccan lamb and a marbled leather texture. Rich, enveloping and vivacious, the wine finishes with perpetuating energy and length – not to mention the satisfying tannins that rouse a desire for more.

Maturation: Aged for 12 months in French Oak, 38% new Alc: 15.7%

As a tribute to the upbringing that shaped the individual he is today, Dave named Orin Swift after his parents – combining his father’s middle name, Orin and mother’s maiden name, Swift.

Called by Wine Spectator Magazine as ‘one of the most influential and innovative winemakers in California’, Dave sources his wines from some of the most renowned vineyards in California. Each wine has a distinct point of view and every packaging element – from glass selection to the label material – is his design.

Dave takes a vineyard-first philosophy. Believing in the power of place and that winemakers are only as good as their fruit source, he walks every vineyard and calls every pick. Dave sources from his favorite lots throughout California to ensure only the highest quality fruit make the cut – selecting his top choices from Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and other premier areas throughout the state.
