Les Aventures de l’Agneau Masqué (the adventures of the masked lamb) Episode 4: ‘Le Bal des Masques’ ………. is the next of Les Aventures du Mouton Masqué (adventures of the masked sheep) that André did for unusual wines. ‘Les Aventures de l’Agneau Masqué are the story of my elucubrations, of my reverie concerning Gewurztraminer. The idea is simple: to seek the perilous balance needed to make a dry Gewurztraminer, full of energy with a bounce and ambition.

This series of wines is a step-by-step representation of discovery and learning; of a different way of thinking about a grape variety in terms of its content and form!

About Ostertag Wines

André Ostertag is described as a revolutionary winemaker and arguably Alsace’s most famous and respected. He is a pioneer, pushing the appellations boundaries, constantly experimenting and innovating to coax the ultimate expression of terroir. It is fairly young domaine, which began life in the 1960s, has 13 hectares of vines split among 75 plots in five villages. He looks for the nuance of terroir rather than the typicity of a grape varietal.

In an act of rejection against the official classifications dictated by the A.O.C., he made up his own categories. Vins de Fruit that express fruit character rather than that of a specific vineyard site; Vins de Pierre reflecting the terroir from which they originate, and; Vin de Temps that rely on time and weather to encourage the development of botrytis.

Arthur embodies this same approach. His instincts are as passionate and strong as that of his father and the wines continue to evolve in a way that honours the appellation.

CellarHand

CellarHand is a fine-wine importer and wholesale distributor, with a portfolio featuring some of the most sought-after estates of Germany, Austria, France and Italy, as well some of the greatest producers from Australia and New Zealand. Our ethos has always been to build a portfolio as you’d construct the perfect wine list. We work with small, family producers who express the best of their regions. The wines we sell are the wines we enjoy, and the people who make them are like family to us. They are wines that taste of where they come from, and though they’re steeped in history and stamped with the signature of their terroir, they’re more than ever relevant – and desirable – to the Australian diner of today.
