It is elegant and discreet, revealing pear and delicate orange blossom notes at first, then honeycomb and a citrusy trace of grapefruit. A medium body wine, with good persistency and a vibrant acidity balanced by the nuttiness on the palate. It has a generosity to it while remaining varietal and clean on the finish.
2022 was back to our classic cold and fairly wet season, ideal for this vineyard but more challenging in the higher elevation sites like Koomooloo. Great acid and aromatic retention will be a hallmark of this vintage for the years to come.
The first since planting Koomooloo in 1989. The vineyard is located on Boree Lane and affectionately known as Boree Lane Vineyard. It is also on the classic young volcanic soils of Orange but at a lower elevation, 750m. The wine was fermented in large open vats to blow off some of the alcohol. Fermentation was finished off in 600ml demi muid barrels for extra texture on the palate.

Orange is one of a handful of regions in Australia that fall into this category. Orange is unique among these regions due to the cool climate being the result of continental conditions rather than latitude.
