Varietal composition: 100% Nebbiolo
Fratìn is a special terroir, on a sun-drenched hillside in one of the best growing areas for the Nebbiolo variety. In the past this hill was owned by a convent of friars, which led to its being called Fratin – ‘little brother’ – in the local dialect.
The grapes from this vineyard are vinified separately to produce a wine with intense, complex qualities and great structure. Its ruby-red colour is deep and compact, with nuances hinting at shades of garnet. Th¬e intense nose is complex, showing fruity overtones of jam, prunes and raspberries. ¬The varietal note of violet is unmistakeable, and is joined by more evolved aromas of spices, including cinnamon and green pepper; and to end, a warm, dry flavour, which is tannic and well-structured, leaving a slight undercurrent of elegant minerality on the mouth. A wine with a long cellar life that makes a perfect match both for fur and feathered
