Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot with a Little Touch of Cabernet Franc

Introducing Pierrot – the family romantic, he secretly pines after the French Maid, who is oblivious to his sentiments. A somewhat naively trusting character, he is affectionately teased by his big sister, but takes solace in his book-learning. 12 months maturing in French oak, he spends much of this time improving his mind and developing his integrity as an artist. Somewhat shy at first, he proves himself a worthy companion over dinner, with a rich and flavoursome personality that enriches the evening.

A most approachable young man, he offers quiet but thought-provoking nuances that leave you with something to think about. When the time comes for you to go home, he’ll more often than not take your arm in a gentle grip and leave you with a parting gesture that makes you smile as you step out into the night. An intriguing character, he inspires you to watch him age through the next decade to see what delights he might offer up.

Pedigree
60% Cabernet Sauvignon
30% Merlot

Pierro Vineyards, Margaret River

Pierro Margaret River Vineyards, located in the heart of Western Australia’s renowned Margaret River wine region, stands as a testament to exceptional winemaking. Our beautiful Willyabrup vineyard is nestled in one of the world’s finest wine grape-growing terrains. The pristine environment, characterized by fresh air, clean seas, and unspoiled country, contributes to the unique quality of our wines. This region’s viticultural pedigree is unparalleled, making it a perfect setting for producing extraordinary wines.

The region’s geographical and climatic conditions significantly enhance our vineyard’s potential. Surrounded by open water on three sides, the area benefits from pure, cool sea breezes from the Indian and Southern Oceans. The mild, wet winters and sun-splashed summers create ideal conditions for viticulture. The soil, primarily composed of laterite gravel and granite, is perfect for classic varietal grapevines, allowing for excellent root penetration and exploration, which is crucial for producing high-quality grapes.

Pierro’s vineyard practices are innovative and often unconventional. Our founder, Dr. Michael Peterkin, pioneered high-density vineyard planting in Margaret River, with vine density ranging from 4,000 to 5,500 vines per hectare compared to the conventional 1,900 vines per hectare. This approach makes the vines more competitive, balances fruit yield, and promotes flavor intensity. The vines are strategically planted on the sun-facing mid- to low slopes of gravelly loam hills to maximize exposure to sunlight and enhance flavor development during the summer ripening period.

The remarkable history of Pierro is closely tied to Dr. Michael Peterkin’s passion and expertise. A medical practitioner and a fully qualified viticulturist and winemaker, Dr. Peterkin managed to juggle both demanding vocations for 25 years before dedicating himself fully to winemaking. His commitment to producing fine wines has positioned Pierro among Australia’s most acclaimed small wineries. Pierro’s Chardonnay, in particular, has set a benchmark for opulent and hedonistic wines, earning praise from wine critics and enthusiasts alike.

At Pierro, we believe in the intricate balance of art and agriculture in winemaking. Our wines reflect our dedication to quality, attention to detail, and respect for the land. We strive to be efficient land users and responsible stewards of our environment. Our aim is to produce wines that are not only a pleasure to drink but also a tribute to the unique terroir of Margaret River. Through perseverance and passion, we continue to craft wines that are complex, sensual, and a shining exception in a world where mediocrity can often prevail.

Partners in Wine WA

Kirk and Rebecca welcome you as a Partner in Wine! We are a couple of West Australians who met over a bottle of wine, and whose love developed like a full-bodied red. Before long we found our weekends planned around West Australia’s diverse wine regions in an attempt to uncover smaller, niche wineries and the hidden gems amongst their delectable wine creations.

Like you, we appreciate good times and great wine – enjoyed with friends and loved ones – and our journey has taken us through each of the beautiful wine regions of this great state, sampling thousands of wines along the way.

Many WA wines are highly rated by the likes of James Halliday – Australian wine critic, winemaker, and senior wine competition judge – and many prestigious national awards are bestowed on our state’s wine produce each year. WA’s wine is world renowned and highly sought after, but at the same time a large number of boutique wines are hard to come by in major stores, with the winemakers choosing to sell only through their cellar door.

We choose small, WA-only boutique wineries so that you can sample a special drop from our own backyard. Every wine we have tasted and personally endorse, so join us for a taste of WA. Let your winery trail begin – from the comfort of your own home!
